This (stripping) pliers allows the opening of the VHS High Security Vitrification straw by cutting only the outside of the straw (at the colored bead) in order to allow the extraction of the bead/capillary assembly (called gutter).
During devitrification, while keeping the VHS straw in liquid nitrogen, position the forceps vertically at the colored ring and sever the outer straw by pressing on the lower handle of the forceps.
Once the severed portion of the straw is removed, grasp the colored ring and extract the ring/capillary assembly from the straw with a retrograde sliding motion before horizontally dipping the end of the tray into the first drop of warming solution (prepared beforehand according to the laboratory’s protocol).
